Spring is upon us and after the cold winter we had, this is a great time to do some routine maintenance around your home.
- Clean your gutters and inspect for leaks. Clear your gutters of any debris or leaves that may have accumulated during the winter. Also check that the downspouts are clear and that water is flowing through. Make sure the water is flowing away from your foundation and add gutter extensions where necessary.

- Be Flexible. Remodeling your home is no simple task. It is loud, messy and your daily life WILL be interrupted. This is especially true if you are attempting to live in your home during a remodel. Keep this in mind before your start your project and during the process. It will make your life easier, as well as your contractors, if you remember to be flexible. The unexpected will happen. Be prepared and things will go much smoother for you.

- Discuss change orders before the contract is signed. Inevitably, changes will be made throughout a home addition/renovation. Often times, during a renovation, home owners decide to go ahead and tackle other projects they have wanted to do, but haven't had the time or money to do. Before work starts, make sure you agree with your contractor about how change orders will be handled. Understand that changes often affect the schedule and the budget, so it’s important you have all changes in writing.

- Make sure you and your contractor are compatible. Clearly state your goals, objectives, and expectations for your renovation, and make sure your contractor does the same. You will be spending a lot of time with your contractor and project manager. Don't assume anything and ask lots of questions before the project begins.
